4th Year Players

Derek Bezeau(Captain)
Nobody completely understands how Derek was able to receive the title of "Captain." It has been said that he had threatened to conflict pain on the team members if he was not given this leadership role. While none of the players were scared, they didn't want any tension amongst the team so they just let him call himself "Captain." Derek only plays for personal statistics and is out for himself. But watch out, while he may look slightly overweight he is quick enough to make wide-open strike and dump cuts on most of you

Fun Facts: He is going to school to become an elementary teacher-- He loves all of the Harry Potter Books-- He has tried over 100 beers in his life-- He has a lifetime GPA of 3.4 .

3rd Year Players

Zeke has earned his Captain title by playing 6 years of mixed league play in his hometown of Port Huron, MI. We decided that this bit information was immediately enough to make him a leader on the team. When he is not playing ultimate, Zeke enjoys planning on becoming an uncle, watching Seinfield, and puking on the girls he meets at ultimate frisbee tournaments. On the field, Zeke is a jack of all trades. During one point he might be scoring while handling with his eyes closed and the next he might be cutting with his hands tied behind his back. Give him any position on the field and this guy can play it like a guitar.

Fun Facts: He prefers to drink Miller High Life-- His Hero is Kurt Russel-- He played Tennis and skateboarded in high school-- He is a Lefty

Brian Harras

Over the years, Brian has become one of the most recognizable players on our team. He has accomplished this fete not by being better than most players, or being more spirited on the field, but because he proudly wears Detroit Lions gear during games. If being a Detroit Lions fan isn't enough, he also watches every NASCAR race while cheering for his driver, Jeff Gordon. On the field, Brian has become one of our primary cutters. He is able to get open at any time for an in-cut; he can also go deep on people at will. And whenever there is a moment when he needs to jump for a disc you can guarantee he will sky whoever is guarding him.

Fun Facts: He wears the number 20 after his favorite athlete Barry Sanders--He has two brothers and he is the middle child-- He is currently majoring in marketing-- He ran the 800 in highschool and was able to receive all-region honors.

Alex "The Cripple" Heidtke

It has been said that Alex is the nicest douche bag you will ever meet. This may seem very odd to many, but just sit down with Alex for five minutes and you will completely understand what we mean. Alex decided to leave our schools' collegiate marching band to pursue his career in ultimate frisbee and ever since he has made this decision he has not looked back. Sometime at 11:11 or when he sees a shooting star, Alex wishes that he could become Will Smith. While it hasn't happened yet, he is doing everything possible to make this dream come true. Alex is a workhorse on the field and will do whatever it takes to better the team, whether it is doing a flip to catch a point in the end zone, or driving by himself for a tournament just to make sure he is there. Alex is all about the team.

Fun Facts: His dad is featured on a US-23 billboard-- Alex was apart of one of the best Cross Country teams in the country while attending Dexter high school-- He once wore a cheerleading outfit in front of his entire high school-- Once penguin slided in a pit of mud about 20 feet and won a contest at an Ultimate tournament.

John Gow

John Gow, or "JOHNGOW" (you must say it very quickly) dedicates his life to playing video games. When he does find some spare time, he considers ultimate to be a good way to give his thumbs a break on the sticks. John also enjoys eating large quantities of food in one sitting. Even though he is the smallest on the team (5'7, 150 maybe) he can eat more than anyone else by far. John Gow is the reason that many buffets are starting to close down. John Gow started on the team last year as a primary handler and has worked his way this year to becoming a nasty cutter. But above all, John Gow will lock down anyone he guards on defense.

Fun Facts: Played 2nd base on his highschool baseball team-- His favorite super hero is the Green Latern-- He has never drank alchohol in his life-- Can solve a Rubiks cube in about 50 seconds seconds.

Mark "Squeeks" Bordua

Mark received the nickname "Squeeks" when he was in high school. When he was a freshman, he would often squeek when he would talk and the nickname has never left him. Squeeks is about as random of a guy as they come. He could find a way to bring Hitler, Hannah Montana, and Ash Ketchum up in the same conversation and somehow make it funny. One time Squeeks told a waitress at a TGIF that she looked just like Hilary Duff and was immediatly met with high disapointment (appararnly the waitress did not like this comment at all). But this awkward/uncomfortable moment for Squeeks made a hilarious moment for the rest of the team. On the field, Squeeks has improved 187 % since he first played with us. If he keeps this pace up he will be competing for the Callahan in a couple of years!

Fun Facts: From Riverview-- Wants to be like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iC3b5JnSIE-- has three sisters and one brother-- Ran CC and did crew in highschoo

2nd Year Players

Michael Dishaw

You might be wondering why we decided to choose a picture of Michael holding an orange. Well the reason is simple: Michael is the world's most efficient orange peeler. He can peel an entire orange with his bare hands without breaking the skin at all. If you ever see him at a tournament he would be happy to peel an orange for you. Also, if you are ever in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area and see a guy riding a bike, there is a good chance it is Michael. This is because Michael rides his bike everywhere and hardly ever drives a car. He even rides a bike 15 minutes to practice at 9 p.m at night when it is 10 degrees outside. This was Michael's first year as a Hellfish but he has been playing frisbee for a while. He has stepped up and taken a big role on the team as a primary handler. Having a guy on your team that can huck the disc both forehand and backhand is a great asset

Fun Facts: Has been pulled over 13 times by the police-- Has spent three months in the woods of Montana without seeing a car-- Plans to live overseas in the near future-- He has once seen five different movies in a row at a theatre.

Kris "Panda" Coley

From viewing this picture you may think that Kris Coley is a terribly sad sponsor child from another country who is living a horrible life. But us on the team know Coley as something completely different. Kris is a guy who just loves life. I don't think it is possible to ever have a conversation with him where he isn't showing a huge smile. Kris has thought about quitting school to "live life" but has reconsidered this choice because he loves the frisbee team too much. Coley loves sitting around campus on nice days to think about life. Often his thoughts will come to things such as music, guitars, art( Catopaxi), ultimate, and "one hitters."(Team joke). On the field the opponents can expect Kris to be in directly in front of them for one second and in the end zone 40 yards away with the disc in his hands and a big smile on his face another second. His speed, athleticism, ability to learn, will to become better, and hard work has made him one of the top threats on the team in only his first year.

Fun Facts: Works for Little Ceasers and loves it-- Writes music in his spare time-- Can play the Guitar and as long as he has the tabs he can play any song- You will almost never see him not wearing a knitted hat.

Evan Priest

Previous Hellfish players have tried to get Evan to join the ultimate team. Everyone would always see Evan throwing around campus and new he had major potential. For some reason or another Evan never completely wanted to commit to the team. After his third year of going to Eastern Evan started to hang out with Hellfish player Brian Harras. Brian was able to get Evan to come to one practice and since that point Evan has absolutely fell in love with the game and the team. When it comes to spirit of the game Evan is right up there with the best of the them. While playing at tournaments people can always expect him to make conversation or joke around with opposing players. Evan has definetely become a threat on our team with his speed and athleticism. On the field Evan is one of the most likely people to lay out and sacrifice his body to make a big play. If anyone wants to see a huge bid Evan is the guy to watch. And because of all these reasons we are happy that he has finally decided to join the team.

Fun Facts: Is in the frat Phi Sigma Phi-- Played ultimate for his highschool team-- Is a sick all around dancer--Has a brother who plays for cross state rival, Western Michigan.

Spencer Young
Spencer has always dreamed of becomming a famous hockey player. But when he realized that hockey involved violence, checking, pain, and fighting he decided to find another sport. While Spencers tall and thin frame was no fit for hockey, it was perfect for ultimate. Spencer heard about our team, and decided he would give it a shot. Througout the season Spencer has become immensely better at ultimate. He has definetely earned the title of one of the most improved players on our team. Spencer also brings a great amount of intensity to every game. With the combination of his passion, detemination, and intensity there is no telling what type of player Spencer could become in the future.

Fun Facts: Spencer is a very big Detroit Red Wings fan-- One time finished 96th in a race that included 1,589 people--Is going to school to receive his Bachelors in Construction Management-- Don't argue with him about Blink-182, he knows they are good and doesn't care what anyone else says.

Michael Gordon
Michael Gordon was born in the Upper Penninsula in the city of Sault Ste. Marie. He has lived his whole life as a U'per until this previous school year. The transition for Michael was tough, but after he found ultimate at Eastern Michigan life was good for him. Michael is tall(6'2'') and plays much bigger(13'11''). On the field you can find Michael giving a 110% on any given point to try to help the team succeed. With his combination of work ethic, ability to learn, skill, and hustle Michael has a great future ahead of him with the Hellfish.

Fun Facts: He can solve the Rubiks Cube in 47.98 seconds--

Michael "Part-Time" O'Keefe

Part-Time got his nickname by not showing up to many of our frisbee events because of soccer. Therefore he has only been a "Part-Time" player on our team. While many of us love soccer, we realize that no sport comes close to being as awesome as ultimate. It has taken Part-Time much longer to realize this than most people. Ever since he has become more available for the hellfish, the team has learned a lot about him. We have learned that part-time will lay out for any throw, especially the ones that are thrown directly at him. We have learned that he never has any money. We have learned that he constantly lies to make himself appear better at ultimate(such as him saying that he played great defense on a callahan winner). But all joking aside, Part-time has done a lot to make our team better. And he finished off the year by being one of our two most valuable rookies at sectionals. Whenever a game become harder or more meaningful, Part-time steps up his game to become even better.

Jamie"J Master P" Pidcock
Before Jamie ever heard of ultimate frisbee, he occupied his time participating in many other recreational events. These activities included competitive wrestling, golf, hide-and-seek, hopscotch, Mario Superstrikers, and Halo LAN parties till 6 in the morning. Jamie actually enjoyed his days of playing Halo so much that he got the Halo logo tattooed on his chest for bittersweet memories. But Jamie has learned to enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee for Eastern. It is said by many that on the field Jamie has the most intensely relaxed personality of anyone. But make sure not to walk in front of him while he is spectating a game, or he will just become intense(You know who I'm talking about, Loyola-Chicago Coach). Jamie's throws have developed a lot throughout his first season. He is able to get low and throw a smooth forehand, step back and throw a sweet hammer, or just have the sickest air-bounce anyone has ever seen. Everyone on Eastern's Ultimate team is happy to have J-Master-P on the squad.

Brett Borsvold

Brett is one of the people that stands out on our team more than anyone else. He is often seen wearing striped sweaters and bright yellow flood pants on the game field. Along with this it is said by some people that he has a resemblance to Dwight Schrute from the TV show "The Office." I believe he uses these things to his advantage to distract his opponents during a game. Brett is also known for having an unhealthy obsession with hammers. I can guarantee if you meet Brett at an ultimate event the topic of hammers will come up in conversation. But all joking aside, Brett is a very hard worker. In conditioning practices, Brett is always one of the first to finish a sprint and on the field he can cut all day without stopping. Brett is currently in Europe but we look forward to having him back by the winter semester.

Nate Daubendiek

Nasty Nate Daubendiek was a first and last year player with us this past season. Nate was very busy taking grad school classes while also trying to play with us last season. Nate did a great job trying to come to all the practices/tournaments he could. I know all of us are excited to see Nate move on to bigger and better things with his masters degree, but all of us back at Eastern will miss having him around. Congratulations and good luck Nate.
